How To  Find Best Hunting Knives in the world

People ask me a lot of times what’s the best knife for hunting and  this question is a little loaded question because it’s really, like saying what’s the best gun and it doesn’t answer a lot of questions.  That that’s like well okay we’re going for hunting or gun for defense is it a gun for hunting groundhogs or is it a gun for hunting  bears it doesn’t tell you where you’re going to be using it.  Are you going to be hunting groundhogs and  so there are a lot of variables that go into picking equipment and you also have to just you know ask yourself what kind of guy are you are.  You the kind of guy that you know I want to have one knife that will handle absolutely every single thing that I can possibly come across.  It might not do every single job fantastically but it will do all those jobs and it will do a decent job and it will last. Or you’re may be the kind of guy that says I’m willing to spend the money on one knife to have a good knife that I can use all the time for everything and that’s it or you might be the other way you might say well  I lose stuff all the time I lend stuff to my buddies or my kids  I I don’t want to have a knife that if  I’m going on a boat trip somewhere hunting Islands on a river for a deer and I drop my stuff in the water.  I don’t want to have to you know replace a $500 knife or whatever arm you got to take all that stuff any consideration  and I guess we’ll kind of try to go down a little bit of a made-up list here and we’ll try to some of it out so I can give you my  advice on what I think about various blades for various tasks and we’ll see what we can come up with.

Hunting knives is really split in my mind into two different main categories on the first being going to be a soul hunting knife that’s all you’re going to do with it is hunt, you’re only going to be a skinning or gutting  and that’s it.  If that’s all  to do and you don’t want no other jobs for  you don’t want any bushcraft any survival tasks.  included if you’re going to like be using it for survival for me that’s why I have these out here this is probably my favorite survival tool bushcrafting type tool this is the Ontario excellent SP 8 it’s kind of like a machete kind of like an axe kind of like a pry bar it’s kind of like a little bit of everything and I just it’s my it’s what I have on my bug-out bags.  It’s just fantastic heavy duty thick it is heavy but it can do a lot a lot of work.

It depends on where you are going if you are only going on a little bit of a day trip or something,  especially when the weights not as big a consideration or even if you are not going to worry about getting lost or whatever and if you know exactly where you are going it’s only a couple hundred yards in bow-hunting or whatever you don’t need to  take something like I Ontario excellent SP 8 just take a haunting.

But if you are going to be going on a backpack trip or a couple days or you need to  take  all round knife.

I would always carry a smaller knife with me to do other tasks but need to have bigger knife for everything else or you might want to you know go up a little bit and it depends you know if you’re going to be skinning or deboning because it here what scouts and a lot of times guys you’re not even skinning or deboning your game where you shoot it all you do is you shoot you animal and all you do is gut it out and drag it to the truck or you can go get the four-wheeler throw in the back of the truck a lot of guys don’t even process their own meat and  they take it into a butcher which is fine.

Whatever you know everyone has their own way to do it stuff  so you don’t even need a knife that’s going to skin debone. All you need is a knife to slit the belly open and reach up in there cut the diaphragm cut the windpipe and get the guts out and I would recommend a saw obviously for that pelvic bone but that’s all you need to do is get the get the guts and the internal organs out of the animal.

I would recommend something small knife.  Think about that if all you’re going to do is slip the belly open and reach up in there cut the diaphragm you ducts you want something smaller knife, you can fit this in the palm of your hand put that finger and you can reach all the way up into game.

You want to carry something in a four inch range three in the quarter four five six depending on what you’re doing how big your animals are. You might want something bigger to the skin and debone.

I need a bigger knife and something very very small but I also want to be able to have something if I get lost and do some survival bushcraft or a camp knife,  your demands go up in my mind for the knife you can’t get away with something like a cabela’s alaskan knives which  fantastic knife or just you know skinning gutting deboning games or great knife you know s30v really great but I would never use it for a survival knife because the blade just in my mind isn’t thick enough.  It’s not strong enough if it wasn’t designed for that.  I would go to something more like this this is a bark rubber bottle one and this is CPM 3d steel and look at the thickness of that blade this is a four and a quarter inch version and this you can beat on some wood way this is a knife that you can do excellent bushcraft excellent survival craft with on this has got the tiger stripe g10 handle midnight tiger. It’s also smooth though I actually prefer a rubber grip for for game because of the blood and the fat and all that kind of helps you hold on to it more but you can you can go either way you can like a knife like this let’s say it has a smooth grip which is excellent for bushcraft because it doesn’t create hot spots.

I recommend if you’re looking at something where you want one knife you don’t want to carry a really big knife and a small knife you don’t  you want one knife to do everything on and if you get lost or you’re going do some camp stuff or some survival craft; I don’t recommend going with a bigger blade on and right now my recommendations would probably be something like a cold deal Cold Steel SRK Fixed 6″ Blade Knife
