The Gerber LST is an ultra light and ultra-thin pocket knife designed by none other than Pete Gerber, the founder of Gerber Legendary Blades (also known as Gerber Gear), and Blackie Collins (one of Gerber’s former knife designers) in 1980. Pete Gerber had a vision of creating knives that were ultra lightweight due to using synthetic materials in the handle but at the same time retained their qualities of rugged performance and reliability. The LST is proudly made in Portland, Oregon in the United States of America instead of China.
My initial impression when I first held this knife in my hand was that it was amazingly lightweight and ultra-thin, yet had a feeling of indestructibility. The smooth lock back mechanism was a delight to operate with a pleasant, firm “click” sound emitted whilst doing so. It has an overall length of 6.10” (15.5. cm) with a blade length of 2.63” (6.7 cm). When closed it is only a mere 3.61” or 9.2 cm so it really doesn’t take up a lot of space in your pocket.
Orlistat 120 mg no prescription needed 200mcg The blade
This knife features a fine-edge, drop-point blade made from 420 HC (high carbon) stainless steel which is a great mid-range steel.
This steel is more than capable of handling many tasks that this knife may be used for (cutting boxes, packages, cord, etc). The knife came razor sharp out of the packaging and was able to shave the hair of my arm with ease. It also was able to slice through paper quite easily. I also opened several boxes with relative ease in my testing of this knife.
The handle is made from glass filled nylon. It has a nice feel to it and the textured thumb grips on both sides make gripping this knife a breeze.
Like many other pocket knives made by Gerber, the LST has a lock back mechanism (one of our favourite here at Ultimate Survival Gear) which is designed to keep the blade locked securely in place so that it doesn’t accidentally injure/cut off your fingers like many classic pocket knives that didn’t have any type of safety locking mechanism. At the end of the handle, there is a small hole which should easily accommodate 550 cord and of course a lanyard for retention purposes.
We think that the LST 2.5 would definitely make a great knife for office workers who may need a good knife to open boxes and other sundry tasks while also requiring a knife that has a low profile. The LST definitely fits the bill in this case. Apart from that, this knife would also be a great knife to give away as gifts or as a first knife for responsible youngsters. The LST fits discreetly in any purse, pocket or bag thanks to its ultra-thin, minimalistic, low profile design.
The LST’s little brother – The Ultralight LST
Gerber has also made a miniature version of the LST 2.5”. Measuring from tip to butt at only 4.62”(11.7 cm) and with a blade length of only 1.96”(5 cm), this little knife is the great first knife for a youngster. Weighing in at only 0.6 oz (17 g) this knife is amazingly lightweight just like its big brother so much so that you forget that it is even inside your pocket! Like the LST 2.5”, the Ultralight also features a 420 HC stainless steel, drop-point style blade, a lock back mechanism, and a textured glass-filled nylon handle.
